The only thing I liked was the history of the hotel. The best part was leaving! Reception area was small. Hotel was not family friendly. Bedding and furniture was old and musty. Housekeeping sprayed the bedding down with lysol as soon as we checked into the room without being asked to. As if they knew it wasn't clean.
Although the room was booked with an accepted credit card, they demanded cash when the traveler tried to check in, and refused to allow him to stay. They refused to utilize the credit card they accepted by phone for room payment, refused a different credit card he had with him, and because he was unable to pay cash he was turned away with no where to stay, in a strange and dangerous city, alone. Terrible experience.
It had working AC, cable television and a hot shower. I just needed a place to sleep for a night and this was perfect. The cheapest I could find in town and if all you require from a hotel is a place to sleep and leave your stuff this fits the bill. It may be a little run-down, could use some paint and new fixtures but I've definitely stayed in worse, right here in the U.S. It was actually better than I expected after reading some of the reviews. I would stay here again if I was back in Nassau.
Location No wifi in the rooms
My flight was delayed by 6 hours so reached bahamas by 2200. I booked it through kayak linked to booking.com they have me a price for 5nights including VAT. When I entered inside that filthy place she charged me the price shown by BOOKING.com +vat and it was way higher. I tried to show them the papers of my booking where it clearly states prices including VAT but the person working in front said she did not get any instructions like that from her management. You get hot shower only when it has it's mood and sometimes late morning by 11 if you plan to take shower water might not come. Water was salty as hell and toilet doesn't flush properly. When you call them for maintenance service the person shows up checks it and everytime he will say he will be right back in 10 minutes and don't even show up. Vending machine is out of stock the whole time I stayed. Only GOOD thing over there was it's in the DOWNTOWN. Poor quality and they ripped me off
Location only Very dirty, old, rundown and sketchy. More like a hostel not a hotel for $90 a night...maybe $20
the grand central hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. the hotel location was very convenient for downtown Nassau, everything is within a short 5 minute walk. the hotel was fairly quiet and i never had any problems there in the 8 days i stayed. the hotel could use some upkeep but with the price it is a good deal if you don't plan on spending much time in your room. the bed sheets are a little old and after reading reviews stating the same thing i brought my own. no real complaints, i would stay again.
Probably the cheapest hotel to stay on this expensive island. There are unleashed dogs around, it's cash only and it was fairly dirty. It's definitely not a place to linger, just sleep and get out. The walls are paper thin so we heard the owner snore very loud all night.
I really enjoyed breathing in all the mold off the walls. I appreciated spending an additional $37 in cleaning fees to stay in a completely dirty room. The floors were filthy and mini fridge had old food and drink stains. Not to meantion the 3am wake up call from someone being attacked right outside the room and thinking that my girlfriend and I may not live through the night. But I really like the lack of customer service when I didn't even stay the 2nd night and after telling them this they would not refund the money I spent since I was extremely unconvinced to find another hotel to stay at the rest of my trip. If you don't enjoy a good nights sleep and want to risk the life of you and your loved ones then this would be the hotel to choose. I also did not like the fact that our room looked like it had been broken into before because the door frame was pride away from the wall and you could see in from the hall. The hookah bar next door that plays extremely loud music until all hours of the night. And lastly the amazing drug dealers that ask you every couple of minutes if you want "party favors" and heckle you and your loved one with inappropriate remarks. This area only brings the dirtiest of dirt balls and should have listened to the cab driver on the way over when he asked if I "packed a gun."
The hotel staff was very accommodating and more than willing to go the extra mile when presented with the opportunity. We were without hot water for 3 of the nights and that's just not acceptable. I'm not one to write a bad review and I typically give the benefit of the doubt but we weren't offered anything to make up for the gross discomfort.
