Great location! Easy access to bus lines and subways. The bathroom is quite large relative to the room size. Effective use of space. They can store your luggage for you free of charge if you arrive early. I did this and it was a huge lifesaver. No minibar, but I never use that stuff anyway.
It's fine for a three star, but you are paying for five star which it doesn't live up to. It's tricky one hostess was very helpful and another one yelled at us for canceling a cab, it was very strange. The beds are so hard, it was terrible. Also they don't have a bag room so the lobby is absolutely filled with bags because of all the tour groups. Also bar extremely overpriced. Overall it is extremely overpriced for what you get. Use that same amount and go stay in one of the traditional hotels in the cute part of town.
The Hotel Monterey Kyoto was by far one of the best hotels I've ever been to. From the moment I walked through the lobby their staff was beyond helpful, which is a great comfort for any foreign traveler. Their rooms were comfortable and clean with sufficient space for leisure or spacing out a nights worth of souvenir shopping. I absolutely recommended this hotel.
The hotel is clean comfortable and conveniently located. Easy access to the train stations. The front desk staff is knowledgeable helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Kyoto.
This is a lovely hotel in the center of Kyoto. It's a short distance from most sights. The rooms are clean and of descent size. Breakfast was included. Good buffet breakfast.
The Hotel Monterey Kyoto was a great location for our weekend getaway in Kyoto. It was within walking distance of Nijo Castle (which I hightly recommend), the Imperial Palace, and the central Kyoto shopping areas. There is a subway station very close to the hotel so travel was easy. The subway stop is only a few away from Kyoto Station so it's easy to navigate. There are several Starbucks in the immediate area and a post office in case you need an ATM. In Japan if you are an international traveler it can be difficult to use a bank ATM; the post office has an ATM that accepts almost all cards. The staff at the hotel were very kind and welcoming, they even wiped off our luggage when we arrived b/c it had gotten wet in the light rain while we walked from the subway station and they had plenty of umbrellas for guests to use (for those of us who didn't come prepared). The concierge was friendly and helpful and even called the airline to double check something about our flight home and found...
Good value for the money. The property has pleasantly quirky decor, and is spotless and well-maintained. The English-speaking concierge, front desk, and bell staff are all very courteous and helpful. The rooms are well-furnished and large by Japanese standards, and the bathrooms are functional for both Japanese and Western users. The Spa on the 13th (top) floor of the hotel is beautiful and well worth the extra fee.
Conveniently located. Clean and well appointed. Very secure Helpful staff. No problems.
+ Classy Place + Staff did a great job of giving travel tips and directions + Good access to public transportation +/- No cultural surprises - Barely enough space in the room to sit luggage - Not a wide choice of restauraunts in the immediate vacininty ( but plenty withing walking distance)
We enjoyed our stay and were particularly pleased with the clean room and bathroom. The lobby is a bit kitschy and somewhat odd but I found the staff to be extremely helpful in providing information on bus routes, restaurants etc. I highly recommend this hotel.
I don't think I've ever slept so well. Our room was fairly small, but extremely clean and comfortable, with a wonderfully luxurious bed. The hotel is beautifully decorated. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and were able to assist us in English. The location is also pretty good: it's on a nondescript commercial boulevard, but is walking distance from a good number of restaurants, temples and shrines. This hotel isn't cheap, but it makes for a very comfortable stay.
We would highly recommend this hotel for location and service. Hotel Monterey is only three years old which was one of the reasons we chose it. The rooms are quite small but had everything we needed. The staff and concierge did everything we asked of them. Within several blocks there are three or more Starbucks, several other coffee / pastry shops and a very nice grocery store as well as several mini marts. There are many restaurants within walking distance and taxis are readily available. Kyoto train station was no more than 10-12 minutes by taxi. We did not use the Spa but did check it out and was lovely and a pretty good value. We booked a day tour through the hotel and had excellent service with the tour operator.
Superb quality, central location, great value You can hear street noise through the closed windows including club music until 5 in the morning.
Great location, easy access to the primary tourist locations in Kyoto. The room was a bit small (by western standards), but comfortable nonetheless.
I couldn't be happier with my stay at Hotel Vista Premio Kyoto Kawaramachi. I highly recommend this hotel if you're a city dweller. The hotel is centrally located to all the places you should visit in Kyoto City. It's a short walk to the famous Nishiki Market in one direction and wonderful little restaurants by the river at another. It's close to public transportation for day trips around other parts of town. The hotel staff is very helpful with directions and translation. Its not a luxury hotel but the room we stayed in was clean and orderly. The beds are unusually firm! It may be a Japanese thing but it was the hardest bed I've slept in during my two weeks an Asia. I would not recommend this hotel if you need a soft mattress. I knew I needed a larger room because we were traveling with three suitcases and a standard Japanese hotel room would drive me crazy, so I booked a deluxe room with two singles because I was also afraid the queen bed was not large enough for my partner and I so we slept in twin beds like I Love Lucy which was totally fine for three nights.
The single bed room is small, however there are plenty of gadgets for the customer. The location is close to the underground station which connects to the main railway station. the window view is poor. There is no sign post about the hotel and it just hides behind another building at a corner.
The staff were very friendly and all seemed to speak excellent English. The location is great - a really charming neighborhood I'd never seen before. I didn't understand that there's another Mitsui Garden hotel just a few blocks away, and the taxi driver didnt' ask. He ended up taking me to the wrong one... Also, there's a Kyoto Garden Hotel right around the corner - a little confusing!
Location and boutique style. Very good value for money.
the hotel had an excellent location, the room was a ryokan and it had its own bathroom and toilet and a small hall. for hotels in japan pretty large.
the room was neat and the futons confortable. staff intruding in our room without permission
I booked a Japanese style of room. The Japanese style room is really bigger than the former standard room I booked in another Kyoto hotel with the similar rent. Also, I felt it was interesting and comfortable to sleep on the floor. The room was warm enough in November due to the air-conditioner. The towels were put in a clean box in the bedroom, but not in the bath room as usual. So I felt a little embarrassed after showing when I had to go out of the bath room to pick up the towels, where the point is "naked"...
Big room, nice staff, great location Bed
The Japanese style rooms were comfortable, tea pot and cups available. Check-out at 10 am. Seemed not very clean outside the rooms.
Convenient location. Close to restaurants, 24hr convenient stores and shopping. Hotel offers breakfast voucher in exchange for no room cleaning. Washing machine and dryer is a big plus after days travelling. Was excite to have 7th floor room expecting a view, but disappointed to find the window glass frosted and windows open only10cm. Can only see out thru the small opening. Found out the hotel is next to a cemetery; a view hotel may not want guest to see.
Location Staff did not speak English well and room size is very small.
So much of your experience of Kyoto is where you are staying. I am so glad I changed hotels to stay at the Ritz one night. The service is outstanding, the location is incredible, and I had one of the nicest spa experiences of my whole life. Staying here will be one of my top memories of my lifetime. Cannot recommend highly enough.
The swimming pool. The price to value was very high and the hotel billed me twice accidentally.
