I keep staying here and it's like my home base in Des Moines
Friendly helpful staff ready to provide assistance and guidance. Found the location in close proximity to the the airport and interstate. Dining was not the best in the vicinity of the hotel (not the hotels fault) but found the hotel's restaurant especially the breakfast to be exceptional. The breakfast wait staff were among the best I've experienced at a hotel restaurant. The suites could use an upgrade/redecoration.
Close to Downtown Des Moines and the interstate. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, and everything was very clean. Our room had a great view of downtown. The room was sweltering hot the whole time (85 degrees). The staff said you could open the window, but it seemed to be locked shut with no way to open it. Thankfully one of the staff was kind enough to give us the box fan from the front desk.
The beds were super comfortable! The bathroom was tiny and the room was very noisy. We stayed on the 3rd floor and had a steady stream of noise from the elevators and traffic on 235.
it was a beautiful hotel, superior service, with very spacious rooms I wish it could be more affordable, I would definitely stay more often.
Large, clean room Good people
Friendly and helpful staff - both front desk and valet; helpful with directions and made a couple of good restaurant recommendations; Location convenient for an event my wife and I attended during our stay and the valet shuttle included at no additional cost was helpful. Nice breakfast offerings. While I got lucky with a dynamite parking spot in front of the hotel for the weekend and didn't need to move my car, the notion of valet parking for $15 per night was distasteful (I know it can be much more in major coastal cities). Sunday morning breakfast should not end at 10 a.m. - it should run at least until 11.
The email for preferences was perfect!
The room was so luxurious & the staff was amazing! The free breakfast was delicious! We loved staying at the Hyatt! Would definitely recommend & stay there again! The difficult parking, didn't find a spot & had to use valet
It was a really nice place to stay very elegant!!! That it wasn't enough time or half set aside time for adults to use the pool area!!!
Old, tired and filthy
Love the refrigerator and microwave. Love the water slides and pool area. It wasn't too cold lime some hotels. The tiled walk in shower was really nice. Awesome shower head. I wish I would have known the hot tub wad broken when I made the reservation.
Tiki bar is always welcome. Kids, of course, had a blast in the waterpark. Front desk handled my hodgepodge of booking details without a hiccup - Brian is awesome to deal with. Staff was *VERY* strict this time. We have been coming to this hotel for years and never heard this much yelling & whistle-blowing. Not sure if there's been an incident here recently or what. My 4yr old was going down the water slides w/o issue all day long then halfway through the day got kicked off for being too little. Every time we come it seems more and more of the pirate ship is broken down and not functioning, this time it was the tunnel through the middle which my kids have always enjoyed in the past. The water was pretty cold compared to previous years as well. I saw staff taking towels out of the "dirty towels here" bins and re-folding/rolling them to stack on the shelves.
Teen age help around the swimming pool did not appreciate a dachshund walking with a leach.
Easy access, good price. Nice bathrooms. Pillows could be better.
It was very quiet and the staff was very pleasant. It is also convenient to the airport and has free shuttle service.
Location right across airport Offer free shuttle Great breakfast Clean bug room Was able to hear big planes take off
Room was clean and accomidating. Room was not completely stocked with the typical complimentary hygiene items, only had to ask but was inconvenient for bathing.
Besides being close to the airport and having a "free" breakfast, I really cannot say anything good about this place. The room smelled, the pool was too cold to even swim in, and it was over priced.
Updated classic hotel. Clean, great staff, quiet, close to everything. The only thing on the downside is I couldn't stay longer.
Good location, friendly staff, prompt housekeeping. No swimming pool, there was one advertised. Oddly shaped and non ergonomic room layout.
Strangely cool, retro atrium area. Not worth anywhere near the money we paid. Really nothing to do in the nearby area, and the hotel is in desperate need of renovation. Staff was a bit "ho-hum" about everything. Pool was freezing cold and way too deep for younger kids - 9'0" in the deep end, going down sharply from 3'0" in the shallow end. My daughter is an intermediate swimmer and was confined to 1/3rd of the pool due to the depth. The "Video Arcade" features mostly broken games and there is no change machine. The term "Restaurant" is also a strong word.
My room was right across from the ice machine and it was very loud. I would put a door on the ice machine area and put a more sound proof door on the those rooms
Great value for a clean, comfortable room. It's not the nicest hotel, but they have thought of the essentials. The hotel is right by the airport, which was great for our early departure. Otherwise, it's about 15-20 minutes to get into the downtown area but the drive is easy. Everything was pretty nice. If I had to comment on one thing, the room appeared updated but the bathroom was a bit dated. It was still clean and functional, but cramped for my wife and I.
staff, classic feel heater in room wasnt very warm, blankets were goood ;)
The shower was hot. The location and staff were good. Know they are looking at renovations, but it is past time to fix the hotel. The A/C didn't work throughout the building, and it was a sauna in the room. Had to open the windows on one of the hottest days of the year to 'cool' the room down. They offered refunds, and acknowledge the problem, but they should've called in advance. Also, parts of the ceiling were falling off. It's a beautiful building, it needs a major facelift and could be great.
I liked that we got to leave The elevators were broken, so here, carry your bags up five floors. The water in the shower was rusty There was no hear. The room was freezing cold. Freezing. The light in the bathroom was broken. The mattresses were awful. The beds are full size not queen. The whole hotel felt like The Shining. Terrifying atmosphere. Totally deserted. Icky.
Leaving to never return was the best part Unbelievable hot in rooms and staff didn't care
The hotel had great paneling and was an impressive historic building. No one told me there was no air conditioning in the entire hotel. I visited during the hot/humid summer and it was excruciating.
the staff.very luxury place
Convenient downtown location The building was built 100 years ago, and the carpet and paint appear to be original. There is one central air conditioning unit for the entire building so summer is an especially bad time to stay here. Front desk staff barely looked up from her TV show during checkiin. I predict this hotel will be closed by fall.
Old design of building, WiFi and beds No free shuttle service ad listed since they had to cut back on staff, room was dirty and only cleaned daily if requested, lazy staff and no amenities. Most things c!osed down for remodel in September.
The hotel looks very nice from the outside. Multiple restaurants and bars are within walking distance. The rooms and hallways have not been remodeled for many years/decades. Everything in the room just seemed old but not in an antique way. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were not.
Location is great NO AC Old and Outdated
Rooms need badly updated. I like the old decor of the building in the lobby, but the rooms haven't been updated since it opened.
HORRIBLE! WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN, NOR RECOMMEND ANYONE TO THIS HOTEL!
clean room The room was clean the bed was bad the help was fine but the exterior was filthy . The stair rails were very filthy an the whole outside area was generally "crappy"
Very noisy location (near freeway), and very loud all night: music, foot traffic on balcony, etc. Room door was already open when I got there. Older facility in need of external update. Basic Motel 6 room on the inside, but I wouldn't stay here again.
The room was clean and had no problems. It seems like a sketchy area, didn't feel completely safe as a woman traveling by myself.
I didn't get robbed.
was a one night stay a place to lay your head. in and out on the way to someplace else. clean and close to the freeway arrived late was harder to find a parking spot thye had parkking just harder to find a spot I liked.
Staff was helpful and friendly! The room was clean and comfortable. The mattress was quite hard but the down comforter and pillows made up for it. The restaurant had friendly bartenders and good drinks. Didn't try the food but saw what others near us were ordering and it looked yummy. Overall we had a great hotel stay and I would go here again. Great value also! Halls were smelly, no fridge
The location being close to the Iowa Events Center is perfect. We had a double bed room and both beds felt completely worn out. The mattress' dipped in the middle. Could not get comfortable, poor nights sleep.
clean and comfortable difficult to find the breakfast room--have to go through a scuffed up door that looks like it's the entrance to a janitor's closet. Once we were in, however, the food and the coffee were just fine.
